A survivor of the Axum Massacre says he witnessed the massacre of more than 100 hundred civilians in Axum. The survivor Guesh Gebrekidan said Eritrean forces forbid Axum residents to bury the dead. Another resident of Axum, Berihu Kahsay, says he kept a record of the names of of all civilians slaughtered by Eritean forces.

In Axum, the annual celebration of St Mary of Zion did not take place on 30th Nov 2020 due to the invasion of Tigray by Eritrean and Ethiopian government forces and subsequent massacres that took place all the way from Humera to Axum. Ethiopia state-owned television ETV and Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC), however, used old videos from 2019 to whitewash the massacres committed by Eritrean forces and claim that the celebrations took place peacefully.

The allegations against Eritrea to have participated in the law enforcement in Ethiopia is neither proved nor confirmed, everything is based on false statements. Eritrean weapons such as tanks and similar equipment are often shown (fake) … even so, Eritrea has the right to equip its ally.

Hirut Zemene, Ethiopia’s ambassador to the EU, said there was no way the massacre could have happened in Axum during the annual celebration of St Mary of Zion. Hirut, a pathological liar, made a reference to the old videos from the Ethiopian Television to substantiate her claim that the celebration of St Mary in Axum took place peacefully “though quietly”.
